Decking Installation Instructions

Installation Parts

Installing Start Clips and First Board

  1. Install start clips on edge of ledger board, centred on each joist.
    Secure clips with screws.
  2. Push grooved edge of deck board into start clips.
IMPORTANT: First board MUST be straight and well secured.

Installing Screws and Universal Fasteners

  1. Insert fastener into grooved edge of deck board.
  2. Align screw hole in fastener with centre of joist. Continue along the length of the board at every joist.

NOTE: Screw only half way down. DO NOT fully tighten universal fastener screws

Installing the Second Board

  1. Slide second board into place, making sure fasteners fit into the groove. Install screws & universal fasteners on the other side of the second board in the same manner as steps 3, 4 & 5.

DO NOT fully tighten the screw of the universal fastener.

Complete Universal Fastener Installation

  1. Tighten screws on the fasteners in the first row. Proceed with steps 3 through 5, tightening down each row after board that follows in its place. Be sure to use a long #1 square bit.

Installing the Last Board

Option 1: Fascia Flush With Deck Surface

  1. a. Install 65mm Cap-Tor screws through the face of the last board. Attach a square edge board as a fascia flush with the deck surface with minimum two 65mm Cap- Tor screws maximum spacing of 450mm on center. *Note – don’t forget to allow room for the thermal expansion and contraction of composite decking. Allow 3-5mm gap at both ends of every composite decking board depending on the ambient temperature.

Option 2: Mitred Border with Overhang

  1. b. Install 65mm Cap-Tor screws through the face of the last board using a square edge board as a mitred border (picture frame) overhanging the last joist. Attach a square edge board as a fascia below overhanging deck board with minimum two 65mm Cap-Tor screws maximum spacing of 450mm on center.

* Note: don’t forget to allow room for the thermal expansion and contraction of composite decking. Allow 3-5mm gap at both ends of every composite decking board depending on the ambient temperature.
