HOW LANOTEC PROTECTS TIMBER DECKING
We all know that Perth gets plenty of sunshine, that’s why we love outdoor entertaining. However, the combination of sun, wind and rain on an exposed timber deck can take its toll. That’s why it’s crucial to keep your timber decking protected.
Lanotec Timber Seal and Timber Seal Plus are natural timber sealants that penetrate deep into the wood to prevent it from drying, splitting or cracking. The matte finish highlights the natural timber grain and features while, at the same time, adding a protective weatherproof seal. As an added benefit, Lanotec also protects metal fastenings and fittings from corrosion.
The secret to Lanotec is its main ingredient, Lanolin. You may have heard of Lanolin being used in skin care or hair products due to its natural ability to retain moisture and prevent drying. It works in a similar fashion on timber, creating a barrier to lock in the wood’s natural moisture while blocking the harsh weather from drying it out.
WHY CHOOSE LANOTEC
Lanotec was established in Australia more than 20 years ago. The primary goal of the business was to supply products that were non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly. You might say Lanotec was a company ahead of its time, and they continue to be an industry frontrunner in safeguarding the health of workers and the environment.
The two leading products in the Lanotec range are Timber Seal and Timber Seal Plus. Both are simple to apply but have separate uses. Timber Seal is designed for dressed timber, such as decking, outdoor furniture, fencing or cladding. Timber Seal Plus is suited to rough or sawn timber that is often used in the construction or marine industry.
The special ingredients in Lanotec’s sealants also protect metal fastenings from corrosion. When applying Timber Seal or Timber Seal Plus remember, no thinning or mixing is required. It can be used straight out of the container and applied with a sprayer and, if needed, spread out with a lambswool applicator. Lanotec’s products are compatible with most oil-based tints allowing you to restore the colour of your timber deck. As both products are resistant to wash off, reapplication is only needed every 12 months. (During the first 12 months it is recommended to reapply after six months). If you’re unsure when you need to reapply a new coating, try a simple water test. If the water beads on the surface, you’ll know that the timber is still protected.
