Installing Start Clips and First Board
- Install start clips on edge of ledger board, centred on each joist.
Secure clips with screws. - Push grooved edge of deck board into start clips.
IMPORTANT: First board MUST be straight and well secured.
Installing Screws and Universal Fasteners
- Insert fastener into grooved edge of deck board.
- Align screw hole in fastener with centre of joist. Continue along the length of the board at every joist.
NOTE: Screw only half way down. DO NOT fully tighten universal fastener screws
Installing the Second Board
- Slide second board into place, making sure fasteners fit into the groove. Install screws & universal fasteners on the other side of the second board in the same manner as steps 3, 4 & 5.
DO NOTÂ fully tighten the screw of the universal fastener.
Complete Universal Fastener Installation
- Tighten screws on the fasteners in the first row. Proceed with steps 3 through 5, tightening down each row after board that follows in its place. Be sure to use a long #1 square bit.
Installing the Last Board
Option 1: Fascia Flush With Deck Surface
- a. Install 65mm Cap-Tor screws through the face of the last board. Attach a square edge board as a fascia flush with the deck surface with minimum two 65mm Cap- Tor screws maximum spacing of 450mm on center. *Note – don’t forget to allow room for the thermal expansion and contraction of composite decking. Allow 3-5mm gap at both ends of every composite decking board depending on the ambient temperature.
Option 2: Mitred Border with Overhang
- b. Install 65mm Cap-Tor screws through the face of the last board using a square edge board as a mitred border (picture frame) overhanging the last joist. Attach a square edge board as a fascia below overhanging deck board with minimum two 65mm Cap-Tor screws maximum spacing of 450mm on center.
* Note: don’t forget to allow room for the thermal expansion and contraction of composite decking. Allow 3-5mm gap at both ends of every composite decking board depending on the ambient temperature.
